Oct. 20, 2007 Prayer Requests & Updates Forks Ladies ministry: We’ve started English classes this year with 6-7 ladies in 2 classes, double what we started with last fall & about where we ended last spring before the Guatemalan ladies came. Most of these ladies remain after ESL class to attend the ½ hour Spanish ladies Bible study. Two of the 4 ladies from outside the mobile home park have returned; one seems very spiritually interested in the Bible study & last week requested the English & Spanish words for one of the songs we’re teaching, “You are my Hiding Place.” We also meet individually with 6 of these ladies for tutoring times. Last week Leeann went to tutor one lady outside the mobile home park & ended up with a class of 4! We don’t know yet if they will be regulars, but wonder if God is going to expand the ministry to a new location?? Pray God will build the Hispanic part of the Body of Christ His way. We anticipate our first special English practice time in November when we’ve invited an English-speaking friend (believer) to teach how to make apple pies. We’ll meet in one of the ladies’ trailers at the mobile home park. We hope these (monthly?) times will not only allow English practice but will become times when we can help believers in the community make connections that turn into friendships with these ladies, something we see need for as we personally live in Port Angeles, over an hour away from Forks. Pray that God will connect us with the ladies needed to build these kinds of local friendship bridges which will allow greater exposure for evangelism & discipleship. General Hispanic ministry: Praise God for provision of Spanish language classes once a week on evenings we can each attend. Leeann was able to get into the beginning class after being put on the waiting list. June’s class was initially cancelled by the college but the teacher decided to hold it on her own outside of the college. These are interesting times of mixing with others of our own culture who need to know Jesus Christ, as well as opportunities to learn/practice Spanish. |
