Dear Friends,

For several days we have been asked to stay mostly at home due to the elections and associated violence.  This morning we did go out to our church and spent much of the service in group prayer. Election results are now declared and there is much violence as it is feared the results were rigged.  We are in cell phone contact throughout the city with others and much of the city is dark except for the fires (arson) raging in some slums.  One of those slums is Kibera, near our church, where many of our students and friends live.  Some have taken refuge in an Assembly of God church. Pray for protection for God's people and for calm to be restored in the cities.

One of our friends says his room has been filled several times with tear-gas as the police try to control the crowds.  Violence has also been reported in several other major cities.  People have been killed in some areas and there has been looting.  Tonight it was put on TV that all live broadcasting was being suspended in Kenya.  Earlier it was expressed that by showing looting and violence it could actually cause more violence to occur, so possibly that is why live broadcating is suspended.  In some towns as many as 10 people have been killed already.  Some Kenyans are very embarassed that their country is being portrayed around the world in such a poor light.

We expect there could be further trouble tomorrow as the candidate who lost is declaring a victory rally; BBC reported that he is organinizing a parallel swearing-in ceremony.   Please put Kenya on your prayer chains.  Schools should be reopening soon, but in the present situation, that would be impossible.

Thank you for your prayers,
